Education missions planned targeting different sectors in India.
Recognising that education is an important part of Australia-India economic ties, Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), the trade promotion arm of the Australian government, has planned a new initiative for the education sector. The new initiative will be in the form of education missions across industry sectors, which have high growth potential.
"Education is the fourth largest export industry for Australia. Austrade is tapping into the growth of India strategically so that education service providers from Australia can get maximum exposure across a number of sectors and industries", said Michael Moignard, senior trade commissioner, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, Australian High Commission. Elaborating on the initiative, Moignard said: "We are identifying niche areas of growth and opportunities for Australian education providers. Austrade will be presenting the first mining education mission around the 8th International Machinery and Mining Exhibition (IMME) in Kolkata this November for which Australia is also the partner country.
An Australian national pavilion will be constituted which will focus on Australia's education capability and expertise in the field of mining and engineering. Australian universities, technical education providers, trainers and consultants will be showcasing a range of programmes covering undergraduate, higher education, diplomas and certificate programmes." Notably, there will also be training modules and programmes specifically designed for working executives and corporate sectors, which can be delivered either in India or Australia.
"There is an acute shortage of skilled professionals in the mining sector globally and this is an opportunity to understand Australia's expertise and take advantage of the seminars, symposiums and exhibitions focused on this sector," said Moignard. Besides, capitalising on the growth of the Indian economy, Austrade will be bringing together missions in other sectors like retail, aviation, media and entertainment. These missions will be organised around major industry events taking place across India. "The mining education mission will be followed by the aviation show, which will take place in Bangalore in February 2007. While the IT show will be organised in Bangalore and Mumbai," informed Moignard. arkar in Delhi)
